Toast and Season the Rice Before Boiling for Incredible Flavor
Rice is tasty enough on its own, but with a few tweaks, you can turn it from delicious to delicious as hell. For example, the next time you cook rice, try toasting and seasoning it beforehand.
This advice comes through The Kitchn, where they suggest:
While the water is heating to a boil, use this time to toast the rice with a little fat, such as butter or butter. But don’t take any vegetable oil – this is your chance for something more flavorful. Save the canola and grape seed oil for another time. Use oils like sesame, coconut, olive, or even butter instead. A small amount will do, just enough to lightly coat the rice grains.
When the grains are covered and begin to brown (you should smell a deep nutty flavor), take it a step further by tossing some flavorings such as chopped shallots, garlic, ginger, or spices into the pan.
I tried it myself with a little olive oil and garlic and the result was enough to make me want to cook this kind of rice from now on. Instead of pouring it into a boiling pot, you can combine this tip with Alton Brown’s drenching method to really take your rice to the next level. In any case, this is a fairly simple step, and it turns out to be delicious rice. For more details please follow the link below.
