Organized Medieval Musician Workplace
Dennis loves technology, loves composing music, and of course loves the medieval props he keeps around his desk, such as a dragon in a case and a horn in front of monitors. Its workspace is clean, simple and well-organized, but no frills.
Dennis says he loves technology, music making and of course games, but like the rest of us, he has to pursue his hobbies on a tight budget. We think he’s doing a pretty good job. Here are some of the gear in the photo above:
- The desktop comes with a GTX 750Ti, 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and an Intel i5 with custom Windows 8.1.
- The laptop is an older Asus X200CA that I use at university and for programming.
- My dual screens are Samsung 24 “and Philips 22”, which I hope to replace one day with matching ones.
- I play and record music, so I have a Cakewalk UA-25 EX preamp that connects to the microphones on the right.
- These microphones are a Shure SM57 dynamic microphone and a McCrypt BM700 condenser microphone.
- I use Bose Companion 2.0 for audio output.
- The headset is a wireless Kitsound Beamer that I bought on Ebay for a few dollars.
- The mouse and keyboard are from the Microsoft Wireless 3000 series.
- and finally, the horn between the table is a real horn that I bought from the medieval market.
Since I am always looking for a great deal, most of the equipment is second hand or discounted. The total area of this workspace is less than 2 thousand, which is equal to the new MacBook. That’s a lot of money, but given what I get for it, I think it’s a great deal.
As you can see, I hate wires, so most of my setup is wireless, or the cables are tucked away under the table.
The rest of my room has a few guitars and amps, books and a Viking tapestry that matches the setup.
It’s admittedly a small shot, but we love what we see and it’s well organized. There is room under the monitor stand for books and headphones, even for a printer and a second laptop, not to mention a microphone stand on the side and an amplifier. Rotate the mic and you’re ready to compose music or participate in a video call, whichever you really need. Good job Dennis!
