Using Facebook’s Mobile Site Instead of an App Can Save About 15% of IOS Battery Life
It’s no secret that the Facebook app is a huge battery drain on iOS, and we’ve mentioned many times that iOS and Android users should just use the mobile site. If you’ve ever wondered how much battery life you will save by doing this, The Guardian ran a few tests.
The Guardian’s tests have been simplistic, but the results agree with what we’ve heard many times before: Facebook is ruining your battery . Here’s how the Guardian broke it:
Using an iPhone 6S Plus for a week without the main Facebook app installed, I recorded the 10:30 pm battery life every day for the week, comparing it to the weekly average with the app. I charged my phone overnight, removed it from the charger at 7:30 AM and used it as usual. I logged into Facebook for the same time and for the same purposes, using the excellent mobile social networking site in Safari as I did in the app. I also left the Facebook Messenger app installed.
On average, by 10:30 pm every day, I had 15% more battery power left. I also saved space because at the time I uninstalled the Facebook app it was consuming about 500MB in total, combining 111MB of the app itself and its cache on the iPhone.
While we almost always knew this, it’s nice to see some numbers attached to it. Uninstall Facebook app, your phone will be much happier.
