Victories Turn Your Deeds Into Battles and Productivity Into Triumph
iOS: Victories is an app that takes every to-do on your to-do list and turns it into a “battle,” where doing is winning and putting off is giving up. As you get more productive, your character gets better, and there are stats and tons of data to ponder on as you push your character to progress.
Victories is a simple app, but underneath the relatively simple shell of an assignment app, there is a wealth of data and research on what makes us more productive and what keeps us motivated. Like most business apps, you add things you need to do and cross them out when you’re done. You can also set deadlines and short notes. When your affairs are in the app, they are called “battles.” When you mark them and fill them in, they move to the “Wins” column. If you postpone them or miss the deadline, they move to the “for rent” column. Your character level up as you score victories, and the app keeps track of things like how long it takes you on average to complete a battle, how many victories you’ve scored versus how many times you’ve surrendered and what your winning percentage.
All of this data is displayed next to your character along with his level progress, which naturally makes you want to score more wins, do things, and keep those numbers – and your character – good looking and well progressing. As you achieve victories in certain categories, you will create “conquests” or longer lists of achievements.
Gamification can be a powerful motivational tool , and Victories is far from the first app to take the “adorable pixel avatar you want to improve by being productive” approach. The previously mentioned Quest was one of them, and the Dungeon Runner fitness app was another. Another great example is Habitica (formerly HabitRPG), one of our favorite gaming productivity apps . Victories is available for iOS only and is completely free right now. Click on the link below to check it out.
