Your 2015 Tax Refund May Be Delayed Due to an IRS Computer Issue
Earlier this week, the IRS announced a system outage. As a result, some tax refunds may be delayed.
In a press release, the IRS said they had a “hardware failure” affecting their electronic filing system. By release:
Taxpayers can continue to prepare and file their tax returns as usual. Taxpayers can continue to submit their tax returns to the electronic file provider; these companies will keep tax returns until the IRS resumes accepting electronic tax returns. Taxpayers who have already filed tax returns do not need to take any further action.
The IRS is still assessing the extent of the shutdown. The IRS does not currently anticipate major disruptions in refunds; we still expect 9 out of 10 taxpayers to receive a refund within 21 days.
