XDA user rundgong has created a custom ROM that allows you to turn your Chromecast into a local media player without an internet connection. While it’s very primitive – all of the playback controls are controlled by one small button on the Chromecast itself – it can be useful in some rare situations. Let’s say you want to use it in a hotel without setting up your own Wi-Fi hotspots . Or you can try it because it’s cool. Keep in mind that this will erase your Chromecast, so don’t use it on a device that you also plan to use normally.
