Almost Unlimited Cloud Storage Copy.com Shuts Down
Copy.com, a cloud storage service that offered virtually unlimited space and huge referral bonuses, announced today that it will close on May 1, 2016, leaving more than a handful of people with tens or hundreds of gigabytes of data to migrate.
Copy and its business-focused cloud storage service, CudaDrive, are subsidiaries of Barracuda Networks , which today announced the shutdown, first in the form of toast notifications for their users and then eventually in a statement on their home page (link below ). From there, they note:
We know this is disappointing news for our users, but rest assured that we will do our best to take care of each of you as Barracuda is known. We’ve partnered with Mover.io to make it as easy as possible to migrate your data to another service, and we’ve created a step-by-step guide that walks you through the process of migrating your data to your local hard drive or other cloud storage.
If you have a paid Copy or CudaDrive subscription, look forward to an email in the coming days with more details on your options. For more information visit our FAQ page .
Copy was one of our contenders for the title of the best cloud storage service , mainly because there was virtually no limit to the amount of storage you could collect – as long as you could get people to help you with referrals and sign up with your links. …
Customers with paid plans will likely be offered a refund or credit for another storage service, but everyone will have to retrieve their details before the service ends on May 1st. For more information, click the link below to see the full announcement.
