Amazon Bans Incompatible USB-C Cables for Safer Purchase
We’ve known for months that some USB Type-C cable manufacturers make cables so bad that they can damage your hardware . Now Amazon is finally banning them.
As pointed out by Google software engineer and product review hero Benson Leung, Amazon has added a line to its banned electronics list that says any USB Type-C cable that does not meet standard specifications will be banned from sale on Amazon.
This is good news for consumers who cannot understand the intricacies of cable specifications before purchasing a $ 10 charging cable. As USB Type-C phones become more popular, the risk of out-of-spec cables only increases. As Leung points out, users still need to find out-of- spec cables to get banned. Which can be tricky since Leung seems to have been the only hero to test them all so far. However, we hope that manufacturers will now think twice before placing poor quality cables on site in order to cash in quickly while everyone is buying new cables.
