Find Out How Much the Tax Plans of Presidential Candidates Affect You With This Tool
Knowing the policies and positions of presidential candidates is key to being an informed voter, especially when their position can have a big financial impact on you if elected. This calculator shows how much each candidate’s tax plans can affect you.
The Vox and Tax Policy Center calculator uses hypothetical income (and hypothetical congressional moves to pass their tax plans) to show you how their plans will affect you. To give you an idea of how this tool works, I have added information about a fictional person. Their average household income, according to the 2014 US Census , is $ 53,657 and they are married with one child.
In the screenshot below, you can see how this fictional person’s federal taxes (income tax, social security, health insurance, etc.) would be impacted by each of the presidential candidates’ plans, but do not account for the services that the fictional person would have paying for itself does not indicate how this hypothetical tax cut will be offset by spending cuts, and certainly does not detail where tax dollars go when they increase. Fortunately, the rest of the tool explains in more detail where each candidate says they will put your money – or where they’ll get it if they give it back to you – if they say something, of course. Check out the Vox Frequently Asked Questions for more details and indicate your specific situation at the link below.
