Why Do We Get Hangovers When We Drink Alcohol?

We all want to know the secrets of how to get rid of a hangover , but have you ever wondered how you get away from “Woo!” to “WOOOO!” to “Uh …” in the first place? This video from Brit Lab explains which drinks are causing the worst hangovers, why we drink them, and if there is anything we can do other than make (short-lived) promises to never touch alcohol again.

Most of us know the basics: the more alcohol we drink, the more likely the next morning can be pretty awful. Obviously, the levels of tolerance will be different. Specifically, Brit Lab explains that hangovers happen because, firstly, alcohol makes us urinate more and become dehydrated. Its breakdown in the body then releases unpleasant substances such as acetaldehyde and cytokines , which can be the cause of our general feelings of nausea and headaches. In addition, since the liver is busy processing alcohol, it cannot produce as much blood sugar during sleep. As a result, you wake up tired, irritable, and generally feel deadly.

If you overdid it, well, the internet has made various medications ( some work, but most are ineffective ) and each has its own medications. If I can stomach this, I will personally have a good breakfast. Otherwise, just leave the blinds closed and talk to me in two days.
