How Much Money Will You Make Using Apple’s Renewal Program
Apple recently introduced the Apple Renew program, which pays you with Apple Gift Cards and Good Earth vibes to recycle old iPhones, iPads, Macs and more. Here’s what you can expect when you send used items.
Recycling with Apple Renew is easy. Just go here and provide some information about the model of the device you want to dispose of, its storage, its state, and some other things, after which the site will give you a return value. To keep things simple, here’s what you can expect back, grouped by device.
What do you get for your old iPhone or iPad
Provided your device is still in decent working order, here’s what you can expect to get back for recycling your old iPhone (Brightstar is Apple’s recycling partner), regardless of device color or carrier. Keep in mind that these are all estimates and the actual cost you will receive may change once Apple receives your device and verifies it.

It is important to note that your refund will be lower if your device does not turn on properly, has a badly damaged screen, has a bent or broken metal case, has been damaged by water, or if any of the buttons do not work. Also, the site does not mention anything about engraved models, so this may affect the value of your device. If your device really messes up, they may not offer you anything at all. However, they offer free, environmentally friendly disposal, no matter what.
Apple’s Renew program treats your old iPhones and iPads as the sum of the stuff inside. It doesn’t really matter what color it is or how much memory it has. It’s a fair deal for those who bought the base models, but not as good for those who spent a few hundred extra dollars on extra storage. You could probably get a little more for your devices if you tried to sell them (and get cash instead of Apple gift cards), but overall it’s not a bad deal if you’re looking to update Apple’s lineup. Apple will also pick up your old iPods and other gadgets , but there is no gift card reward. If you want to safely dispose of your iPod, they’ll do it for free, but all you get is the satisfaction of disposing of your old electronics properly (which is still expensive for some). However, if you pick up your old non-Shuffle iPod from the Apple Store, you can get a 10% discount on your new iPod purchase.
What you get for Mac and Windows PC
You probably assumed that Apple would bring back old iMacs, Mac Minis and Macbooks, but you can recycle Windows laptops and desktops as well. If your Mac or Windows PC was released after 2007, it is eligible for Apple Renew.
There are many different Mac models and combinations out there, so you ‘re better off looking for your own specific machine . However, to give you a rough estimate, you can count on an Apple Gift Card from $ 35 for an older MacBook Core 2 Duo (2.0GHz) up to $ 500 for a MacBook Air Core i7 (2.2GHz) to $ 720 for $ 13 -inch MacBook Pro Core. i7 (3.1 GHz). For desktops, you can get from a $ 230 gift card for a Mac Mini Core i7 (3.0GHz) up to $ 800 for a 27-inch iMac Core i7 (4.0GHz) with Retina 5K display up to $ 1,500 for a Mac. Pro (3.7GHz), Ivy Bridge quad-core processor. If you’re a die-hard Mac user and aren’t ready to sell your old machine, recycling your computer at Apple seems like a pretty good way to cover some of the cost of your upgrade.
However, you won’t get much for recycling your Windows PC , even if the machine is running fine. For example, a Windows desktop PC with an Intel Core i7 processor (3.0-3.49 GHz) will only get you a $ 75 gift card if you plug in the power cord, work keyboard and mouse, and if it has an SSD. … The processor alone costs almost three times as much (assuming it’s still in good condition). Recycling your Windows machine with Apple is only worth it if it’s broken, you don’t want to try to sell parts of it, and are just looking for an environmentally friendly way to recycle it.
