Chrome Now Shows All Your Extensions by Default, While Hidden in the Menu
How many extensions do you have installed in Chrome? If you’ve forgotten some of them, today’s Chrome update will remind you of that.
When the user interface changes, all extension icons are placed to the right of the omnibar. The ones you have hidden are placed in the hamburger menu – unlike the previous ones, you cannot completely hide the extension icons.
Google claims this is to protect users:
Too often we’ve heard that many users are unaware of installed extensions, whether it’s downloading unpublished apps, installing via phishing, or simply forgetting how many and which of the installed extensions. Unfortunately, extensions consume computing resources and can have a significant impact on security, privacy, and performance. Because of this, we decided that we needed to improve visibility for users.
Perhaps this is a good reminder to clean up installed extensions.
