Three Main Factors to Consider When Deciding Whether to Buy a New Car

If your car breaks down and you are thinking about buying a new or even used one, this is an important decision. Cars cost a lot of money, so this decision is not easy. Here are three main factors to consider when deciding to buy a new car.

There are a lot to think about when deciding whether to keep your old car or upgrade it. For example, driving your car into the ground may seem economical, but if that car is eating gas or needing expensive repairs, this may not be the best long-term solution. This is just one of many things to consider, but Consumer Reports indicates that the decision includes three general factors:

  • Money: Will you save on a car with better fuel economy? How much will it cost to repair your current car? Finally, how much will the new car depreciate? These are all important details to consider when weighing the financial factor of a new car.
  • Safety: Consumer Reports points out that many new cars have amazing safety features that make them worthwhile. If you are planning on buying a new car, they recommend finding one that at least comes equipped with: a rearview camera, curtain airbags, electronic stability control (esc), and frontal collision warning.
  • Opportunities . The final factor in deciding should be what features you are looking for. Most new cars have at least a USB port for phone connection and the ability to connect a phone via Bluetooth. If performance is your deciding factor, consider the fact that you can also equip your current car with these features.

With these three factors in mind, Consumer Reports also created a flowchart to help you make a decision. This should be taken for granted about any flowcharts, but keep in mind: this is just a general visual guide to help you make a decision, it is not based on any scientific evidence. So take it for what it is and check it out below, then move on to full additional information to help you make your decision.
