How to Pre-Order an Echo Dot Without Going Through Amazon Echo
Earlier today, Amazon announced two new Alexa-powered devices: the Echo Dot and Amazon Tap . Curiously, the only way to order an Echo Dot is to use the Amazon Echo. On Twitter, however, Dwight Churchill found a workaround using Amazon’s iPhone app.
If you just go to the Echo Dot page on Amazon, there is no “order” button. Instead, you must pre-order the device from Amazon Echo. To work around this, open the Amazon iPhone app , search for “Echo Dot,” and swipe right to add the Echo Dot to your card. This way, your pre-order is already in the basket and you can place your order. If you really yearn for this Echo Dot but don’t have an Echo, it’s probably worth doing it now while you can. This only works in the iOS app, as there is no gesture in the Android version to add an item to the map.
Update : Some Android users have had luck with voice commands. Press the microphone button in the Amazon app, then say “Add Echo Dot to Cart”. After that, you will be taken to the basket. If it doesn’t work in the main Amazon app, try the Amazon Underground app instead.
