Check If Your Vehicle Has Been Subject to a Safety Recall
Some car safety reviews make headlines, but others go unnoticed, which means there’s a good chance some drivers will miss or ignore it. A recent CarFax study found that around 18% of vehicles on the road are operated with an open safety recall. Check if yours is one of them.
In a recent press release, CarFax says it estimates that around 47 million registered vehicles (out of 258.5 million) are “driven, sold or bought” with open reviews, suggesting that drivers are either not aware of the problem. the safety of their car, or they just do nothing about it.
CarFax reports :
If you own an SUV or minivan, or live in Texas, Mississippi, Alaska, Utah, or West Virginia, then you will most likely have an unfixed recall. ” Our data shows there is still a lot of hard work to be done to address recalls, ”said Larry Gamache, director of communications at Carfax. “Many people still risk their lives unnecessarily by not being aware of events or taking action when their vehicle is called back. This is one of the many reasons family-oriented cars, including one in four minivans, are most impacted.
Their press release says they maintain “a database of over 15 billion vehicle history records from over 92,000 sources worldwide.” In addition, they do not offer further details about their methodology for this study. However, their findings are similar to a recent report from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), according to which 25 percent of recalled vehicles remain unrepaired.
Like CarFax , NHTSA also has an online tool that lets you check if your vehicle has been recalled (you can even disclose the “secret guarantee” ). You just need your VIN. Check it out at the link below.
