Skip Vermont and Make Delicious 2-Ingredient Maple Candy

Maple candy is a New England staple, but – the good news – you can make a batch in your own kitchen no matter how many miles you are from Vermont.

This recipe is especially helpful if you don’t live in an area where it snows. While you can easily make candy using just syrup and snow , I’ve seen snow exactly seven times in my life, so it’s not always an option.

All you need to do is maple syrup and a few drops of oil to make delicious maple candy without the hardened water falling from the sky. Well, another pot and candy tins. Boil a pot of water first and pay attention to the temperature at which it boils. (Water boils at 212 ° F at sea level, but you may not be at sea level.) Pour it out and add two cups of maple syrup along with a couple drops of vegetable oil or ghee. Simmer, without stirring, until the syrup is 28 ° F above the boiling point of the water. Remove the candy from heat and let it crystallize for 3-5 minutes. Stir until opaque and pour into molds. (Note: stirring can actually be tricky, so click on the link below for tips and tricks.) Once the candies have cooled, pop them out of the tray and into your mouth and enjoy a delicious virtual trip to Vermont.
