You Can Only Disable Defender in Windows 10 Home by Installing a Different Antivirus
Windows Defender isn’t the best antivirus software (even Microsoft admits its own solutions aren’t perfect ), but it’s enabled by default in Windows 10 Home. In fact, the only way to disable it is to install something else.
Oddly enough, Microsoft has made its Windows Defender a permanent fixture for Windows 10. You can temporarily disable it as shown in the screenshot above, but you cannot disable it permanently. If it’s off for too long, Windows will turn it back on.
The only caveat to this rule, as stated on the MakeUseOf tips site, is the installation of third-party antivirus software. Avira believes we have chosen the best antivirus software, like most of the other big brands, including BitDefender, AVG, Kaspersky and others. After installing these applications, Windows Defender will turn off. In other words, Microsoft doesn’t care what antivirus program you use, but you have to use something . On the one hand, it seems a little intrusive. On the other hand, how many of us have friends or relatives who refuse to take basic precautions but still need help solving their problems ?
