Get Rid of the Stigma That Something Is Wrong With You Because You Want More Friends.
We all know that making new friends after college is incredibly difficult , but The Wall Street Journal notes that we tend to make our life harder by thinking that actually wanting to make more friends is bad.
When you graduate from college, your life will change in different ways. You work more hours, friends have children, and you tend to distance yourself from people you have known for years. Many people end up losing a lot of friends because of this. There is a certain amount of adult helplessness and the realization that you need friends, which is probably the reason it is stigmatized, but in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, clinical psychiatry professor Irene S. Levin notes how normal this is. :
How do you find a friend now? Dr. Levin says the first step is to get rid of the prejudice that something is wrong with you, if you don’t have enough friends, or if you want to make more money. “As adults, we think everyone has friends and we are the only ones looking for them,” she says. “There is nothing further from the truth.”
Obviously, the very process of meeting new people and making friends is a difficult process, but once you overcome the stigma that something is wrong with you because you have few friends, it becomes much easier. If you’re looking for a few more ideas on how to make friendships easier when meeting new people, check out The Wall Street Journal.
