Stick to Your Grocery Budget With a Don’t Buy List
Even if you shop from the list, it’s easy to overspend at the grocery store. You throw excess goods here and there in the basket, and before you notice it, you spent a lot more than you expected. To combat this, try shopping with a “do not buy” list.
This idea works well if you tend to buy things because they are being sold, only to come home and realize that you already have a lot of it. The idea is relatively simple, but Epicurious explains:
When taking a kitchen inventory before you go grocery shopping, in addition to making a list of the things you need, also keep a list of the things you don’t need – things that you already have enough that you might be tempted to buy … Every time someone of us notices that we have too much, we write it down in the “Don’t buy” section of the grocery list on the refrigerator, just like we write down what we need during the day.
