Follow Your Fear, Not Just Your Passion
The old adage “follow your passion” is designed to guide us towards successful careers and hobbies . If you want to go one notch higher, consider following your fear as well.
That is, “good fear.” Life coach Marie Forleo discusses in the video above, this is a solution or idea that you can’t stop thinking about, but also has a paralyzing sense of fear. However, this huge fear may indicate that you need to strive for it. We are most afraid when we care the most and when we push boundaries.
Of course, be practical and sensible. If you are afraid to swim, that doesn’t mean you should become a lifeguard, especially if you have no desire to become a lifeguard. Plus, you still need to develop the skills you need for your career.
Just run a fear test. This could be a sign that your own mind is the biggest obstacle to achieving what you truly love.
Cool koan time: what would you do if you knew you weren’t going to lose?
