The Rest of the Day: a QR Code Is Coming Soon to the Infamous Windows Blue Screen
The Blue Screen of Death is very rare these days due to the stability of Windows 10, but system crashes can still occur. And when your system does fail, you will soon be greeted with a helpful QR code that you can scan for more information.
- The new feature was spotted in the latest preview version of Windows 10 , according to The Register. When you scan for a code with your phone, you just go to windows.com/stopcode , but you can imagine that custom codes could eventually lead to useful diagnostic information. What is smart! Because if your system is down billing, you still have to jump onto your phone. [Registry]
- Following the recent launch of the official Reddit app, Apple has removed other third-party Reddit readers like Narwhal from the App Store . What for? It’s mostly semantic quibbles about how these apps handle NSFW content, which Apple has always been scared of. (Narwhal has already configured his NSFW switch and has been restored to the App Store.) - Soon you will be able to create profile videos on Facebook using third-party apps like Vine or MSQRD (one of the most famous face changer apps). Profile videos have been around for a long time, but they could only be captured on the Facebook app. These new integrations let you play around with filters and other decorations. [Engadget]
- Vimeo will be showing several independent short films in theaters later this month . In partnership with Spotlight Cinema Networks, several US indie cinemas will show some of the Vimeo footage ( Darby forever ?) Ahead of feature films. A short film before a feature film seems old-fashioned in a good way. [VentureBeat]
