Hang an Umbrella Over Your Chandelier to Trap Dust and Drips While Cleaning
If you’re not careful, cleaning chandeliers and other pendant lights can introduce dust and debris into everything below. This umbrella trick makes sure that doesn’t happen.
When it’s time to get your chandelier cleaned up, Mary H.J. Farrell of Consumer Reports recommends opening and hanging an umbrella (like a U-shaped handle) upside down from the bottom. You can then use a hair dryer in a cool place or a rag to remove all the dust and the umbrella will catch it. If you need to wipe it down with any kind of cleaning agent, drops will fall on the umbrella too. When you’re done, unhook the umbrella, dump it in the trash and clean it so you can use it again later.
