Add a Working Cartridge to a Raspberry Pi Powered Game Boy Console
The Game Boy modification to add a retro-style game console is nothing new . However, one modder took it to the next level with a serviceable cartridge and a removable battery.
As you can see in the video above, modder Vermi opened the classic Game Boy cartridge and added a microSD-SD card adapter. Then he soldered the pins of the adapter directly to the pins of the old cartridge. Inside the Game Boy, he also soldered the cartridge reader pins to the Raspberry Pi. As a result, the cartridge has become a removable microSD card adapter that should be very handy for replacing games.
The mod also includes other nice additions, such as a removable lithium-ion battery inside the battery compartment (naturally), and the L and R buttons where the middle screw holes used to be. You can check out the full build in the source below to see how he did it.
