Google Maps Gets New Navigation Notifications, Automatic Map Downloads and More
Android: Google Maps has just been updated with many tiny but useful changes. Chief among them, the permanent notification that you see when using navigation, now has a new look, making it much easier to tell where you are going.
In previous versions of Google Maps, if you launched Navigation and then exited the app, the notification displayed was visually identical to the other notifications. Because of this, it was difficult to tell at a glance where you were going. The notification now turns bright green and has obvious direction arrows for each turn. It’s so much better.
The new app also has a switch to automatically load map areas. If this switch is enabled, Google will detect the areas you are most frequently in and will automatically download those areas. These map downloads let you search and navigate even when your connection sucks, so it’s nice that they automate the process. If you want to try out the new version, you can either wait until it is released or download it from APK Mirror . Read more about the rest of the changes below.
