Strange Things You Didn’t Know You Can Take on a Plane
Many of us have had some TSA confiscated at one time or another. Obviously anything considered a weapon is likely to end up in the agent’s pocket (they even took my nail clippers once) and the fluid sizes that can be accepted can seem pretty limited, especially if you don’t check the bag. If it’s been a long time since you’ve flown, you may need to be reminded not to take on the plane, but sometimes what you can take with you can be even weirder.
Food you can take with you through security
Airport security has such an extensive list of prohibited items that you might think you cannot smuggle most of the food through security and onto the plane. But you can actually bring any food with you – even fresh eggs (if you want … for whatever reason).
Here are examples of other products you can bring:
- Bread
- Candy
- Grain
- Cheese
- Cookies
- Hard chocolate
- Ground coffee / coffee beans
- Crackers
- Dried fruits
- Gum
- Nuts
- Sandwiches
- Solid pet food
- Pizza
- Protein or energy powders
Of course, there may be certain limitations for some of them, and you may need to separate them to check separately, so do research if you plan on taking your lunch with you and don’t want to get stuck throwing it away. at the checkpoint.
How to get liquids on a plane
According to TSA regulations, any liquids of 3.4 ounces or less are allowed in your carry-on baggage, even alcohol :
Alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content exceeding 24% but not exceeding 70% in check-in bags are limited to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger and must be in an unopened retail package. Alcoholic drinks with an alcohol content not exceeding 24% are not subject to restrictions in checked bags.
Mini alcohol bottles in carry-on luggage must fit in one quart-sized bag.
A small amount of coffee and more breast milk are allowed. Let the TSA know you have one to check it separately.
These sharp objects are allowed in carry-on baggage.
According to the TSA website, which has a whole section on sharp objects , you can actually bring your nail clippers with you (it would be nice to know). Travelers can also bring scissors that are “less than 4 inches from the pivot point,” knitting needles (although I’ve seen some of them confiscated), disposable razors, lockpicks, safety pins and tweezers.
If an agent is attempting to confiscate sharps that you approved, you can try to indicate that they are listed on the TSA website as an approved item. However, keep in mind that the TSA also states that “the final decision rests with the TSA officer as to whether the item is allowed through the checkpoint.” So they can still accept it.
Now about different subjects
If you may need to take a few more questionable or strange items with you on the plane, you can check this list of other allowed items . The list includes:
- Bulletproof vest
- Auto parts (if there are no traces of fuel in them)
- Artificial bones
- Shock collars
- Xbox
- Horns
- Your Harry Potter wand or lightsaber
- Drumsticks
- Electric blankets
- Geiger counter
- Hookahs
- Laser pointers
- Live fish
But then again, there are certain limitations and these decisions are ultimately made by a separate agent who checks you, so don’t be surprised if someone says no to your body armor.
