Tell FCC What You Think About Debt Collector Calls

A recently signed bill allows debt collectors to use robots to communicate with consumers about federal debt. The FCC is trying to update these rules to make them less annoying and they need your feedback.

You can view the budget proposal that led to the change here . A small amendment to this bill gave debt collection agencies the right to call consumers on mortgages, student loans, or any other federal debt. As noted by Consumerist, the FCC is working on legislation to keep this from getting out of hand. They want to update the rules to, for example, prevent robots from calling friends and family members of debtors. The FCC expects public comment on this matter by June 6th.

Consumer Reports has shared a handy form to send its feedback to local members of Congress. They further explain:

The FCC is currently reviewing strict rules that will regulate how and when debt collectors are allowed to contact you on your cell phone. The debt collection industry is pressuring the FCC to back down, but they are required to view all public comments submitted through their website.
