How to Disable Annoying Weather Widget in Windows 10
If you’ve turned on automatic updates in Windows 10, you’ve probably noticed the addition of a new – and rather annoying – weather and news widget to the taskbar. It’s called News and Interests, which Microsoft added to Windows 10 with the version 1909 update, and it highlights everything that’s wrong with Windows 10: inconsistent design elements, adding a feature that no one really asked for, and more. more of a mess you don’t. no need.
The taskbar widget even looks a little blurry compared to the crisp high-res elements around it, which adds a bit of sadness. (We’re not mad at you Microsoft; we’re just disappointed. )
Fortunately, you can easily remove it. Here’s how:
- Right-click any part of the taskbar on your Windows 10 computer. It is located to the left of the clock and network connection icons in the lower right corner of your screen.
- Select News & Interests .
- Click Turn Off .
If you ever regret your decision to remove this widget (which is unlikely), you can get it back by right-clicking anywhere on the taskbar and choosing News & Interests> Show Icon and Text . You will also notice the Show Icon Only option, which will only display a small weather icon with no text next to it.
Plus, whenever you hover your mouse over the weather widget, you will see a huge panel with news and weather information. If you want to see the weather on the taskbar, but you are not interested in news and updates from Microsoft, you can disable only the news part of the widget.
To do this, right-click on the taskbar and go to the News and Interests section . Now uncheck the ” Open on Hover” box. In this case, the weather widget will remain on the taskbar, but will not allow you to open the enlarged – annoying! – news bar if you don’t click on the widget.
And if you’re looking for alternatives, there are many other great Windows weather apps you can try.
