Roll Automatically Categorizes and Selects the Best Photos From Your IPhone’s Camera Roll

iPhone: If you have a large library of photos on your iPhone, you know it hurts a little to track down specific photos or pick a good one. Roll can help with both of these problems.

The main feature of the video is the automatic organization, similar to Google Photos . The app scans your photos and then tags them with keywords based on what it thinks is in the photos. These are keywords like nature, cats, selfies, or whatever. It does the job surprisingly well, but scanning your library can take a while (up to five or six minutes if you have a lot of photos).

Perhaps more interesting is the application algorithm that checks the quality. Roll scans photos using a number of artistic principles, such as composition, to create a score for each photo. If you’re wondering how it works, they describe the process on Nvidia . Of course, this is not ideal and the aesthetics are a matter of taste, but it is useful if you have a lot of photos of the same. Since it’s limited to iOS, I don’t see it replacing anything else for the organization, but it’s still a useful addition just for the scoring system.
