Google Translate Adds Offline Mode to IPhone and “Click to Translate” to Android
Android / iPhone: Google is rolling out big updates for the Google Translate apps on Android and iOS. In particular, the iOS version now supports offline mode, but Android also has a handy new “Tap to translate” button.
IOS offline means you can now translate text when you don’t have a data connection. If you’re traveling, this is incredibly useful as you most likely aren’t paying for an international fare. In the Google Translate app, simply tap the arrow next to a language name to download the package for that language. On Android, this has been around for a while, but now offline mode will also work with the new Tap to Translate feature.
The Tap to Translate feature integrates Google Translate throughout Android. When you copy text from any language, the Google Translate button appears and you can paste the text to translate it right here without leaving the app you are in. Finally, Word Lens, a feature that lets you point the camera at text to translate it , now supports both Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
