Expect More Than Usual TSA Waiting Times at Airports This Year
If it seems like it has been taking longer to get through security at the airport lately, you can’t imagine anything. According to The New York Times, TSA wait times at US airports are indeed much longer and we could get used to it by the end of the year.
Probably the biggest reason for the increased security latency is the sheer volume. TSA’s chief of operations, Gary Racikot, told the NYT that the economy is doing well, which is why Americans travel more. Also, believe it or not, airline ticket prices are pretty low this year.
It is also partly to blame for the TSA’s tighter budgets, as they cut around 5,800 auditors. Changes in TSA procedures are also one of the reasons for the slowdown.
Rasiko warns that the long wait times are likely to last until summer, so keep that in mind when planning your trip. You will want to arrive at the airport earlier (or better yet, check in for a pre-check ) and make sure there is sufficient time between connecting flights. You can also check the security wait times before heading to the airport.
