Adobe Is Rolling Out a Major Update for Photoshop CC and Minor Updates for the Rest of the Apps

Adobe is releasing a major update to its suite of cloud-based creative apps, most notably Photoshop, which is getting a host of new features, including content-aware cropping, font matching, and more.

There are a lot of new features here, so let’s just break them down by the largest by application:

Photoshop

  • New functionality to find and organize fonts, including the ability to view fonts by family.
  • Font Matching is a new feature that uses machine learning to detect font on an existing image. It is essentially a tool for creating eye drops for fonts.
  • Anti-aliasing with face detection now makes it easier to automatically adjust facial features for retouching.
  • Content-Aware Crop works exactly as you’d expect: you can crop or rotate the image, and Photoshop fills in any gaps on the canvas.
  • The new selection and masking space changes the quick selection tool slightly. Now you can get a dedicated workspace specifically for the selection tools, making it easier to work with different masks.

Illustrator

  • Illustrator introduces new export options for screens, which means it’s easier to export individual assets from artboards.

Premiere Pro and After Effects

  • After Affects gets a character animator that makes it easy to match the animated character with the speech and movement of a real actor in real time.
  • Premiere Pro gets some new VR features, including a Field of View mode that makes it easier to preview the final product.

There are several other minor improvements in other applications, all of which can be found on the Creative Cloud What’s New page .
