Quickly Pickle Onions in a Bath With Red Wine and Vinegar
Pickled onions are a great seasoning for sandwiches, salads, and anything else that requires a tangy, flavorful topper. Here’s an incredibly easy way to make a batch in just 15 minutes.
We’ve already talked about easy ways to marinate onions , but this method from Daniel Gritzer of Serious Eats requires only two ingredients and does not require heating. All you have to do is chop the onion (slices and rings are more versatile), put them in a bowl, and pour an amount of red wine vinegar into the bowl to coat all the onion slices. Wait 15 minutes and you’re done. You can leave the onions to soak for up to a couple of hours, but they will soften pretty quickly and change the taste. And if you use red onions, you get a stunning hot pink color that will add entertainment to your dish.
