All the Great Announcements You Might Have Missed at SDCC This Weekend
San Diego Comic-Con wrapped up this weekend and man made us get tons of amazing teasers. Here are just a few of the biggest trailers and highlights we’ve gotten from this amazing scam . Spoilers for many movies and TV shows follow.
Justice League Trailer Starts Gathering Heroes Together
The first half of the two-part Justice League tournament will take place in November 2017, but we’re already getting our first teaser. The aforementioned trailer shows Ben Affleck’s Batman gathering up the remaining heroes he found in files he picked up from Lex Luthor’s computers in Batman v Superman. We’ll see the Flash, Cyborg and the terrifying Aquaman Jason Mamoa. You can also take a promo shot of the entire team (including Superman) here .
Wonder Woman Trailer Reveals World War I
While Wonder Woman stole the show in Batman v Superman , everyone was still curious about how she would fit into the modern world in a solo movie. The answer (as with Captain America’s first solo performance) is that she won’t. Her first film is set during World War I, and it looks amazing .
Doctor Strange’s second trailer pours magic right into your eyes
Meanwhile, in Marvel Country, Doctor Strange has a second trailer. The first one came out shortly after filming ended and we only had a few effects. This trailer solves that problem. We’re well-versed in Strange’s runic spells, more of the trip-kaleidoscopic effect we saw in the first trailer, and the city on fire in blue. If you like Marvel magic, this looks promising.
Luke Cage & Iron Fist Receive Their First Trailers And A Teaser For The Defenders
Marvel has also released several teasers for various Netflix series. Luke Cage is next in line , with the show’s first season airing on September 30th. We’ll see Iron Fist next year, and you can see the first trailer for his show below. All of this leads to the appearance in late 2017 of the Avengers-style crossover series The Defenders , in which Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist participate in one episode. You can find a teaserforThe Defenders (no footage from the show) here .
Marvel announces casting for Captain Marvel , Black Panther villain and Star-Lord’s father
In a slew of announcements for the already crowded Hall H panel, Marvel has released a ton of news. First off, Brie Larson is officially Captain Marvel and her movie will be released in July 2018. We then find out that Michael B. Jordan will be playing the villainous Eric Killmonger ( yes, really ) in Black Panther, which is due out in February. 2018. We also learned that Star-Lord’s father is – you never know – Ego, the Living Planet . Yeah. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be weird.
Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok Missing Footage But You Can’t Watch It
Within the walls of Hall H, happy Marvel fans were able to see new footage from the films Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok . The footage will not be published, but you can read descriptions of each on io9. Spider-Man refers to the John Hughes film, echoing classic high school films such as The Breakfast Club. Meanwhile, Thor feels abandoned due to being left out of the Civil War , but he can fix that in his own film by adapting just a tiny piece of Planet Hulk .
We first saw the ship from the Star Trek: Discovery series
CBS is creating a new Star Trek series that will air next year, and now it finally has a name and a ship . The new series will be called Star Trek: Discovery, and you can see a teaser for the new ship above. There isn’t much else to do at this point, but if you like Star Trek and have already watched the new movie this weekend, this is a great trick for your next much-touted project.
New Fantastic Beasts Trailer Finally Starts To Show Some Beasts
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the last film in the Harry Potter series, this time focusing less on Harry Potter and more on America. The early trailers focused a bit on the monsters that gave the movie its title, but the latest SDCC trailer finally got to the good stuff .
Revamped Mystery Science Theater 3000 Series Coming To Netflix
After a stellar Kickstarter campaign, MST3K was destined to update. Now, not only does he have a new lineup (plus some of the old ones), he’s found a new home on Netflix . The series will return “in the not too distant future” starring Patton Oswalt, Felicia Day, Jonah Rae, as well as Mary Jo Pel, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, all reprising their roles in action.
These are just some of the best news, but obviously there was a lot more going on in the scam this weekend. Check out the coverage of our subsidiary io9 for all the information you can process from SDCC.
