Five Airports to Receive TSA Automated Security Checkpoints
After a lengthening of the queue at the airport was expected this year, the TSA has taken steps to address the issue. Their latest solution includes the addition of new screening technology in Chicago (O’Hara), Dallas / Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Miami. They will also include a pilot program in Phoenix.
TSA and American Airlines will install automatic devices to screen passengers’ carry-on baggage and, according to TSA, will cut waiting times by about 30 percent. They launched a similar program with Delta in Atlanta.
According to a press release, TSA claims their automated equipment will include:
- Automatic belts that pull bags into X-ray machines, returning containers back to the queue after the screening is complete.
- Potential packets can be routed to a separate area so that containers behind them can pass through the system without hindrance.
- Property boxes, which are 25 percent larger than boxes in regular security checkpoints.
- Unique radio frequency identification (RFID) tags that attach to each cell to provide additional account of items as they move through the system.
- Cameras that take pictures of the outside of the bag, which is associated with an X-ray of the contents of the bag.
They plan to introduce new technology at these airports by the end of the year. To get the full version, follow the link below.
