What to Take to the Beach Without Children
When planning a family trip to the beach, you probably have kids in mind. But an adult beach day requires a different set of items. It’s time to trade baby toys for card games, beach sports, music, spirits, and more. Here’s how to pack up for the day by the water.
Essentials for any day at the beach
Of course, the essentials are there: beach towels, sunscreen, water bottle, sunglasses and food. Travel Blog The Savvy Globetrotter is very good at covering the essentials – don’t forget your swimsuit, flip flops, ID and parking money, ice cream or drinks. You will also need a beach blanket in addition to a beach towel (the more towels the better) and sun loungers if you need back support. Plus, you’ll always need a shade source, be it an umbrella, mini tent, or canopy.
Also take a first aid kit with you. Rescuers will carry heavy duty gear, but a small set of bandages and alcohol wipes can go a long way when it comes to treating minor accidents. Other miscellaneous items include bluetooth speakers, external batteries for your phone, and a special bag for your wet bathing suit after you’re done with water and changing.
Fun for adults on the beach
While drinking alcohol on the beach is often prohibited, some beaches do allow alcohol to be consumed, so be sure to research alcohol-friendly beaches in your area if that’s what you’re looking for. Pack a cooler that’s easy to transport and plan ahead for bottling drinks in plastic or other non-glass containers, as glass bottles are not allowed on most beaches.
Card games are a good choice for beach fun – we’d recommend modern classics like Cards Against Humanity or Joking Hazard . If you are a sporty type, bring volleyball, frisbee, soccer, or a game of cornhole with you. Spike Ball is a newer alternative that may require some explanation to your friends, so if you plan on playing it please send them the site link in advance for instructions .
My secret weapon for a trip to the beach
Lugging everything on the sand is the worst part of setting up a seat on the beach, so I take a wagon with me on every trip to the beach. Some roll better on sand than others, so look for one with larger inflatable wheels . They can be expensive ( under $ 500 ), but there are many cheaper, good quality options to choose from. If you have a van, you can use my other advice for the perfect beach trip: bring full meals that would be too heavy to haul and too messy for the kids. You didn’t live to see a real dinner on the beach. Grilled chicken, anyone?
