AT&T Renews Its Charges and Drops Excess Charges

AT&T is releasing a new set of plans that include various changes to the amount of data you will receive, as well as a new cost overrun system that prevents accidental over-limit charges.

The new plans are called Mobile Share Advantage. The big change is the new surplus system. Rather than automatically charging you when you exceed your monthly data limit, AT&T now limits your data access to 128 kbps. If you can’t handle the slow speed, you can still buy more data per month. The data distribution for each price tier is also slightly different from what was previously suggested, although this is not always a bad thing. For example, $ 30 will now only bring you 1 GB of data instead of 2 GB. However, it used to cost $ 100 for 15GB, but now it costs $ 90 for 16GB, so there is a lower rate for some of the higher tiers. Here are the new pricing for the plans, which also includes unlimited domestic calls / texting:

  • 1 GB: $ 30
  • 3 GB: $ 40
  • 6 GB: $ 60
  • 10 GB: $ 80
  • 16 GB: $ 90
  • 25 GB: $ 110
  • 30 GB: $ 135

However, these prices are not your total bill. If you don’t have an annual contract, you will still have to pay between $ 10 and $ 40 for access depending on how you purchased your phone. The new plans will be available on August 21st.
