Castro 2 Is a Queue-Based Podcast Manager Based on Episodes

iPhone: When it first launched, we were fans of Castro’s simplicity , which was great for people who only listened to a few podcasts. Now, with Castro 2, the app is reimagining organization again, this time focusing on episodes rather than subscriptions.

Unlike most podcast managers, Castro 2 is more like an email application that focuses on queuing up specific episodes instead of subscriptions. This is most evident in Castro’s three main screens: Inbox, Queue, and Archive. Each section works as you’d expect: your inbox contains all the podcast episodes you subscribed to, a queue of an ever-growing list of episodes you want to listen to, and the archive contains a huge list of everything. It’s a smart system for those of us who might want to listen to at least one episode of what a friend recommends without subscribing to the podcast right away.

Castro also has several of the features you’d expect from a podcast app, including dark mode, storage optimization, and a sharing system that makes it easy to share an episode with friends. There is also a favorites button so you can easily save episodes. Castro is missing some nifty features from other podcast managers, such as turning off silence or starting a podcast at a specific time. An app like Overcast is still the best podcast manager for most people , but Castro’s episode-centric approach fills a wide enough niche that it’s worth looking into if you don’t like how most managers tend to focus on subscriptions instead. of queuing up.
