This DIY Crutch Pocket Keeps Your Belongings Close at Hand When Getting Around Is Tricky

The attachment to crutches makes it difficult to get around, and if you’re used to carrying a bag or wallet, losing the use of an arm (or two!) To just stand or move also makes it harder. Try making this pocket yourself and tying it to a crutch or crutches to make some room for your luggage.

This design creates multiple pockets for attachment to crutches. You’ll need:

  • Two pieces of fabric measuring 6 x 7.5 inches (main pocket)
  • Two 6 x 6.5 inch fabrics (phone pocket)
  • Four 5-inch pieces of elastic
  • Four 7-inch tapes
  • Velcro
  • Sewing machine (optional)

You can see step-by-step instructions in the video above, but here’s the basic idea. Sew on the phone pocket, then attach it to the fabric of the main pocket. Attach the elastic to the fabric of the main pocket, and then sew the Velcro to the ends of the elastic so you can wrap it around the crutch and hold the pockets. Finally, attach the tape to the top of the main pocket so you can tie the pockets to the crutches for extra support. In addition to storing essentials in your pockets, you can attach things like keys or a small water bottle to the straps with a carabiner.
