Popcorn is the perfect snack to eat because it is easy to make and comes in many different flavors. If you want a savory umami-flavored snack, a little soy sauce in popcorn butter is all you need.

At Food52, Posey Harwood has discovered the secret to evenly distributing the savory flavor in your large bowl of puffed popcorn: mixing savory complex butter. Simply melt about two tablespoons of butter in a saucepan, then add one tablespoon of soy sauce with a whisk. Pour the mixture over the already cooked popcorn and shake until it covers evenly. The salinity of the soy sauce should pair well with the richness of the oil, and you don’t need to add extra salt ( unless you want to ). For extra flavor, Harwood suggests adding some sriracha to the oil and sprinkling it with garlic salt.
