Top 10 Cities to Work in Tech

If you’re looking for a tech career, where you live matters, but you don’t have to try to survive in Silicon Valley to find a great job. US News has produced this report, which highlights ten cities across the country that are great for tech workers if you’re thinking about change.

Let’s start with a list. In order of ten to one, according to US News, these are your best tech job search options:

  • Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Dallas, tex
  • Boston, Massachusetts
  • Austin, TX
  • Seattle, Washington
  • Washington
  • Detroit, Michigan
  • Albany, New York
  • San Francisco, California
  • San Jose, California

Of course, some of the entries on the list are not particularly surprising. San Francisco is of course the closest major city to Silicon Valley, so naturally there is work there, but it also has an extremely high cost of living, so it might not be the best option even if the chances are high that you will find a job. … Washington, DC is also straightforward. With so many government agencies nearby – and their federal contractors and the whole universe of companies that deal with government in a variety of industries – the job market has always been pretty hot there.

However, some of the entries are more interesting, such as the inclusion of Detroit or even Dallas, cities that you might not have thought of as technological centers in the past. Of course, US News explains why they think every city deserves its place in the top ten in the link below, so you’ll have to check it out to see if that rationale resonates with you or if you think it’s bullshit. Either way, if you’re looking for change and thinking about moving to a city with life, culture, and job opportunities for your tech career, you can certainly do worse than some.
