Add Fruit to Breakfast Sandwiches for a Fresh Alternative to Heavier Meals
Egg and bacon and cheddar are the platonic ideal for a breakfast sandwich, but if salted pork or cheese is too heavy for five days a week, consider making your morning meal easier with a little fruit.
Apples and figs are great companions for a hard boiled egg with spicy cheddar on an English muffin, or you can toss in the cheese and pair fried pineapple with bacon and fried egg on toast. Ouch! And don’t forget the tomato, which you know goes very well with an egg on bread.
Of course, the egg doesn’t have to be involved, protein-filled nut butters, some smoked ham, and a dash of good strawberry jam are a great, salty sweet way to head off the day. There are a lot of options. (If you need even more sandwiches for breakfast, check out the link below for even more delicious ideas from The Kitchn.)
