Old Windows Insider Builds Will Soon Be Deactivated Unless You Update
Trying out Windows Insider builds is a great way to stay on the cutting edge. If you don’t update these assemblies, Microsoft will deactivate them. The first round of expiration is approaching.
If you are still running the earliest Windows 10 Insider builds, today you will start to see some screens warning you that you need to update soon. Starting October 1, these builds will be reloaded every three hours. Finally, on October 15th, these assemblies are not loaded at all. Microsoft hasn’t specified which assemblies will get these nasty screens, except that they are “really old assemblies.”
Of course, the easiest way to avoid this is to update. Insider builds are always free, so it’s free. You can also defer updates and switch to the slow update channel to minimize the risk to your computer. In the end, however, you will have to stay in the know.
