Apple Releases TvOS 10 With Smart Siri, HomeKit Support, Dark Mode and More
Your Apple TV is coming soon with a number of handy new features. With today’s tvOS 10 release, you can improve Siri searches, control HomeKit-connected devices with your Apple TV remote, and reduce eye strain with a new Dark Mode.
Siri now allows you to combine multiple search criteria. For example, you might say “show me horror movies starring Christopher Lee ” or “show me 70s crime TV shows .” Some third-party apps, like YouTube, now also support Siri and content links. If you’ve been looking for some super-cute online video, you might say ” search YouTube for cat parade .”
You now also use your Apple TV as a HomeKit hub. Using Siri, you can turn off a connected light or adjust the temperature of your home thermostat. Other improvements include a dark mode for using Apple TV at night, and a redesigned Apple Music app that introduces new Discovery and Favorites mixes (similar to the Spotify Discover Weekly playlist). The Photos app will also receive an update with the Memories feature. Your Apple TV will automatically create photo albums based on the location and date of your photos, and Memories will also compose a short video compilation of your photos.
However, there is no “single sign-on” in this update. Announced at WWDC , this feature allows you to sign in to multiple Apple TV apps that use your cable subscription credentials with just one sign in. Hopefully this feature is coming to tvOS soon. You can read more about the tvOS 10 update here .
