Amphetamine lives on the menu bar and overrides OS X’s power saving settings to keep your Mac awake when it might otherwise fall asleep. You can schedule times to activate or deactivate, specify which displays or drives will stay awake, and other triggers to set specific conditions when you want your computer to stay powered on. You can even activate it when connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
There is an older app called Caffeine that does a similar function, but Amphetamine gives you much more control over the exact circumstances of when you want your Mac to stay awake. And it’s free, so it’s a handy tool in the menu bar.
