Come Early to Impress the Boss, but Don’t Be Late

It doesn’t matter how long you stay in the office . Your manager will appreciate your early arrival more, according to a recent study from the University of Washington.

The researchers conducted an experiment with 149 pairs of executives and employees. The managers rated the juniors for conscientiousness and efficiency. General hours of work were taken into account.

Even when factoring in total hours worked, objective performance, and employee self-reported integrity, they found that managers perceived employees who start work later in the day as less conscientious. This perception, in turn, leads managers to rate employees as less efficient, even if they worked the same number of hours.

The preferred style of work of the leader also matters. Leaders who were late did not think negatively of those who started late. But they also praised the first workers positively. The essence of the study is that if you want to impress your boss , come to work early.
