Ghost Tours Can Be a Great Way to Experience a New Side of Your City’s History

Ghost tours seem like a silly but necessary event ahead of Halloween, but in The Verge, Caitlyn Tiffany claims they are surprisingly useful for learning more about your city.

Depending on where you live, you may or may not know much about the history of your city as a whole. While you can dig in and do legitimate research or go on any variety of historical tours throughout the year, a haunted tour can show you a strange world that you wouldn’t otherwise know about. However, at least in Tiffany’s case, the ghost tour heightened her understanding of her city:

In fact, the whole experience of the ghost tour made me feel like a young little butterfly that became a part of New York history for as long as I was crushed by its wheels. All of the dead people I’ve heard of have lived big and interesting lives (although some of them were sex offenders and these stories were clearly not funny). The best and perhaps the only good thing about New York is how easy it is to get excited over and over again at the slightest suggestion. I want you to experience it wherever you live this Halloween!

Earlier we talked about the benefits of living and just about exploring your city as a whole. The ghost tour is definitely the vehicle for this. Silly? Sure, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a worthwhile way to awaken your creativity and thrill you with your city again. At the very least, there is a good chance that just walking the streets and walking around the city will discover new places that you would otherwise miss.
