All Small Fonts in the “unlimited” Tariff Plan of Your Mobile Phone
The FCC today announced a $ 48 million deal with T-Mobile to resolve an investigation into T-Mobile’s Unlimited data plan, which has slowed data transfers for leading users. This was considered cheating because it was not clear when users signed up for the plan. Of course, there is nothing unusual about this small print.
As for the FCC settlement, affected T-Mobile customers will be eligible for 4GB of additional mobile data and a 20% discount on phone accessories. But that didn’t really stop the company from cutting back on prints on some of the flaws in their pricing plans. Here are the current offers in the US
T-Mobile ONE
T-Mobile’s newest unlimited data plan is called T-Mobile ONE. For $ 70 / month, you get unlimited talk, text messages, and 4G LTE data. Here’s the catch:
- The first 3% of data users may notice a drop in speed.
- Video is capped at 480p.
- The modem is limited to 3G.
- Overseas data rates are limited to 128 Kbps.
Of course, you can pay more to get more. For an additional $ 25 a month, you can get a 4G tethering, double your data rate while traveling, and skip HD videos.
Sprint
Sprint’s Unlimited Freedom plan has the same set of restrictions as T-Mobile.
- Video streams are limited to 480p.
- Music streaming is limited to 500 kbps.
- Streaming cloud games are limited to 2 Mbps.
Like T-Mobile, you can upgrade to a premium account to enjoy HD streaming.
AT&T
AT&T’s unlimited plan is almost comical for its limitations:
- DIRECTV or U-verse TV service required.
- After using 22GB, AT&T may slow down the data transfer rate.
As far as Verizon is concerned, they don’t have an unlimited plan .
