PSA: Mac App Store Filled With Fraudulent Apps
Apple is well known for its governing rules and regulations on what can be sold in its stores. However, as How-To Geek reminds us, that doesn’t mean that none of Apple’s app stores are full of junk. The Mac App Store is no exception.
The How-To Geek covers many different examples, which include search results for Microsoft’s office suite, PDF viewers, and virtually every other popular remotely popular application type. In almost every case, there are several overpriced imitation apps in the Mac App Store that do next to nothing. This is usually either a set of templates or a set of intended guides. Nearly every one of these apps uses an icon that looks identical to the actual app you’re looking for, allowing those who aren’t computer savvy to accidentally download an app they can’t even use.
This type of rogue app has been around since the inception of software, but given that many people feel safe buying apps from the Mac App Store, it’s worth reminding. Just because an app is on the Mac App Store doesn’t mean it’s legal.
