How to Block Promotions You Don’t Want to See on Google Maps
The Google cards feed helps you see updates for any stocks you want to look at. However, if you get updates for stocks that you don’t really care about, they are harder to get rid of. Here’s how to do it.
Unfortunately, Google interprets whatever you enter into the search box, even remotely resembling a stock ticker symbol, as the stock you’re interested in. This is usually fine since most words don’t look like stock symbols, but Google can still pick up on something you don’t need search shortcuts . For example, I used “LH” as an abbreviation for finding articles about Lifehacker . Even though I know this is a search shortcut I set up, Google still shows me cards for Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, a company I definitely don’t need stock updates for.
You can remove stock cards in the Google feed, which, unfortunately , is no longer called Google Now for some reason, but if you continue searching, the card will return. To get around this and block these cards permanently, follow these steps:
- Open Google feed.
- Swipe down on the left navigation bar.
- Tap Customize.
- Tap Promotions.
- Add the symbol for the stock you want to block.
- Tap the symbol you just added to your list.
- When he asks if you are interested in the promotion, click No.
It is very confusing that you need to add a symbol to the list of stocks that you really need to block it, but for obscure reasons Google does not provide you with any other option. Until Google adds a better button for filtering stocks you’ve accidentally added to your list, this workaround should keep unwanted stocks away from your updates.
