“Natural” Beauty Products Can Also Be Harmful to Your Skin
Marketers will convince you that natural or organic is synonymous with healthy , but this is not always the case. (As one clinical professor at INSIDER said, “Poison ivy is organic and bad for you.”) However, even more harmless ingredients like tea tree oil and rosemary can irritate your skin.
INSIDER notes that while many health-conscious consumers prefer natural products, these products can be just as bad, if not worse, for those with sensitive skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, many of the main triggers for allergic reactions come from natural herbal ingredients such as eucalyptus and rosemary. They reported:
“People need to really be aware of the fact that just because [a product] is botanical doesn’t mean it won’t be an irritant or allergen,” says Mona Gohara , MD, associate professor of the department at Yale University. from dermatology, INSIDER said … even if you’re not allergic, some natural ingredients like tea tree oil and citrus-derived ingredients are common causes of skin irritation. They may not cause an allergic reaction, but some people may still experience itching and rashes.
Of course, you cannot say that these products are bad. But it’s always good to know how marketing influences our buying decisions. For more information, go to the full Insider post at the link below.
